Olympicically Inspired Inspira

With the last cowl completed, my Olympic knitting is now focused on the Inspira Cowl. Gorgeous piece yet quite simple, it’s corrugated ribs artfully placed along with the use of a long repeat yarn. I opted for a bulky main yarn offset by black ribs from stash.

It is not so vibrantly colored in reality, the camera picked up on the shine and highlights in the yarn. Actually it is subtle and very heathered for lack of a better word.

See the second rib element? I followed instructions for the first row of rib and didn’t like the fact that you get the ‘show through” of the main color on the second row. All further ribs have been corrected by knitting the first rib row all knit instead of a purl rib and knit main color.  The fix? I confess to a cheat, I used permanent black Sharpie and the offending line of color is now gone!  :)

The second problem is that (totally my fault) the cowl rolls. NOT something I want to happen when it is worn. More than likely I’ll pick up along that bottom black ridge and add a rib of some sort to stabilize the cowl.

Despite the fiddly-ness of knitting so much in ribbing, this cowl is really effective and I can see more of these for Christmas gift giving. I’ve declared 2012 as the Year of the Cowl.

Knit on!
